It seems the impact of COVID-19 on new car sales is finally easing off. In May 2020, new car salesdropped by 35.3% of total car sales of 59,894 units. May was the 26th consecutive month seeing a decline in new car sales in the Australian car market, all due to numerous causes such as droughts, floods, bushfires, low exchange rates, elections and lastly COVID-19, which was the straw that broke the camels back. The end of this month was the end of the Instant Asset Write Off initiative; which the government released to improve business investments and motivate the economic cycle; however thankfully it was extended till the end of this year.
New car companies are still focused on keeping car dealerships open to provide customers with car sales experience and to be able to perform maintenance services for their cars. Latest car news, at the start of May, car dealerships began to see some lift in consumer confidence as the COVID-19 restrictions started to ease which is promising indeed!
During May, Toyota was the market leader, followed by Mazda and Hyundai.
